In 2009, the public dental health service in Vest-Agder started, an interdisciplinary public health project with support from the Directorate of Immigration (UDI). We wanted to improve the dental health of asylum seeker children and reduce social differences in health behavior via dental health information. An information film was therefore made aimed at parents of children and young people with a foreign language background.
Goal:
Reducing social differences in health behavior through dental health information.
• Positive focus on dental health in children and young people (0-18 years).
• Raising awareness among parents of young children.
• Integration.
Sub-goals:
• Diet with a focus on water as a thirst quencher.
• Oral hygiene.
• Inform about children's dental health services.
Target group:
Children/young people and parents with a foreign language background.
Helseopplysnings tiltak:
Informational film to improve the dental health of children with a foreign language background.
The project is a multidisciplinary collaboration between Kristiansand state reception, UDI, the Directorate of Health, the public dental health service, Vest-Agder, Sanden Media and Norsk Tannvern.
The project has expanded from the original 5 languages and has now been dubbed into a total of 23 languages.
In the autumn of 2011, support was given from the Directorate of Health for dubbing into Northern Sami. The project was again expanded in the autumn of 2012 and further developed into a website that is available for PC, iPad, etc.
